Modeling & Computation

Modeling and computation are integral to the development and operation of biophotonics technologies.  Researchers in the Modeling & Computation Core develop mathematical models and computational tools that describe and visualize the interactions of light with tissues, from individual cells to whole organs.  They use applications in advanced image processing and pattern analysis and high-speed distributed computing of large data sets. 

These applications are used to:

  • Develop optical technologies that accurately image living cells and tissue
  • Create new medical instruments to diagnose and treat disease
  • Enhance the information content resulting from measurements by diagnostic and therapeutic photonics technologies
